Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the sudden loss of the heart’s ability to pump blood. It is usually caused by a potentially lethal electrical abnormality affecting the heart.
In North America, there are approximately 400,000 cases annually with a survival rate of roughly 10%. Statistics for the Caribbean are not available. Globally, SCA is one of the leading causes of adult deaths.
The condition can strike Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime!
Worldwide statistics suggest that 50%-70% of patients have no previous history of heart disease and this is often the first symptom.
The good news is that SCA does not have to result in death.
